Discussing the future to discover answers about our present. In 2021 the Archiv der Zukunft will be working in cooperation with the German Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale.
Delayed for a year due to the pandemic, the world's foremost architecture exhibition opened at the end of May and runs until November 21, 2021.
In partnership with the curatorial team of the German contribution – titled 2038 – the Archiv der Zukunft is planning two events in Lichtenfels in 2021 and 2022.
Under the banner "How will we live together?" this year's Biennale will address questions that range far beyond mere architecture. Technology, Big Data, the economy, social issues and the development of regional structures will all be subjects of inquiry.
The exhibition in the German Pavilion takes visitors on a journey through time to the year 2038. Experts from the fields of science, architecture, art, technology, business and politics will reflect on the year 2021 in fictional interviews. They will be analyzing the history of our present from the future in order to generate valuable and surprising insights.
The exhibition pavilion in Venice has been kept deliberately empty. The German contribution takes on an exclusively digital form. Large QR codes on the walls connect to the 2038 website, where the ideas and visions of our experts, projected back from the year 2038, can be explored: www.2038.xyz
In the fall of 2021, the citizens of Lichtenfels will work with Team 2038 in a dialog oriented workshop to develop questions and answers for different futures.
More on this in the coming weeks.
Alongside the exhibition, a book about the German contribution to the Biennale is currently being published.
It is an anthology with contributions from various contemporary authors. For a sneak preview and a chance to order, see Sorry Press: www.sorry-press.com.
