Since his earliest youth, professional mountain biker and extreme athlete Tobias Woggon always knew that his vacation would be headed south, escaping the bad weather in the Sauerland region and heading to Lake Garda or the Alps. Never in his wildest dreams would his parents have dreamed of heading north. "It rains all the time there, and we already have plenty of it at home," was their basic rationale.

But as beautiful as the warm sun and small, deserted Italian villages are, there's also the other side of the dolce vita:

Queering at the Irschenberg, weaving past the trucks on the Brenner Autobahn, a few more hours in the car, and suddenly you're surrounded by dusty trails, high mountains with lifts, or busy beaches. Every year the same thing, every year a safe haven for many bikers. Lots of bikers. And so Tobias decided: He's looking for something different, and less of what everyone else has. He wanted to escape, he wanted adventure. And so he was drawn to the north.

And what happened? Rain lashed against the tent; he had long since given up trying to save his shoes. It was getting dark early, and the cold seeped into his bones. And yet, as Tobias lay here, his sleeping bag pulled up to his nose, he wouldn't trade this moment for any beach, any warm weather, or any dust on his legs. But Tobias is a mountain biker with heart and soul, and so a question quickly arose, one he had been constantly searching for the answer to over the past few years: Can you mountain bike up here?

Tobias set out on a journey, searching for the best trails in the north and traveling to countries like Greenland, Iceland, Scotland, the Faroe Islands, and exotic Kamchatka. He experienced the fascinating authenticity of the north, its untouched nature, and sometimes even its cold-heartedness. Here, he felt at home and somehow — at home.

We accompanied Tobias Woggon on his travels, which he captured in breathtaking, action-packed images and video sequences. He thrilled us with his exciting journey through the Wild Wide North!
